Hit the Gym (At Home)

April 15, 2020

Stay-at-home guidelines allow us to get outside and walk, bike or jog. That’s great, but if you prefer to sweat it out at the gym, you’ll need to be creative. If that’s you, we have some good news, there are a number of resources available to keep you fit without leaving home.

Online Fitness Classes

Missing your yoga or boot camp class? Don’t despair, online workout classes are streaming to a computer near you. Orangetheory is uploading new at-home 30-minute workout routines daily for members. Planet Fitness is hosting free "Home Work-Ins". Conroe’s Body and Brain is streaming yoga and tai chi and Gold’s Gym has a full library of workout videos. Peloton has thousands of on-demand classes, including yoga, cycling, running, walking, cardio, strength, bootcamp and stretching, for 90 days free. The best part, you don't need the bike to use the app.

Bodyweight Exercises

No exercise equipment? No problem. Use your body to strengthen muscles and burn calories. You can find exercises here. You can even set up circuit training (going from one exercise to the next, without little or no rest).

Download an App

We can’t count the number of apps available to help you set up and maintain a fitness routine, so here are some of our favorites:

Play a Game

Got an XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii or PS3? Then you have everything you need to work up a sweat. Try Nike+ Kinect Training, EA Sports Active or Everybody Dance.

Get Creative

Have fun with the family and set up an obstacle course in your backyard. Or figure out how many times you have to climb your stairs to equal a hike up Mount Everest. If you’ve ever considered running a 5K, do it in your backyard. Just make a circuit and check you Fitbit to see how much distance you have covered.
